RETROFIT Auxiliary Fan Wiring

How to RETROFIT Auxiliary Fan Power Wiring

REMOVE ALL POWER TO THE UNIT BEFORE SERVICING

  1. Using a #2 phillips head screwdriver, remove grill and all unit cover screws. Remove unit cover.
  2. Locate the fan cord that attaches to the evaporator fan and the controller (at the front of the cooling unit). Using a small, flat-head screwdriver, pull off the quick-connect terminal (pink colored) from terminal block (shown at right - upper arrow). Using needlehose pliers, pull off the quick-connect terminal (pink colored) from the unit controller (shown at right - lower arrow).
  3. Unplug the fan cord from the fan terminals (not shown).  A small amount of cork tape is installed over the plug, which should be peeled back to remove the plug.
  4. Together, these wires are called the "wire harness".  Remove the wire harness from the unit, and replace with the new harness (included in your RETROFIT duct kit) using the same connection points. To summarize:
    • One quick terminal attaches to the controller terminal #2 (lower arrow at right)
    • One quick terminal attaches to the right side of the terminal block (upper arrow at right), and
    • The fan plug attaches to the fan. Replace the cork tape over the fan plug to provide a moisture seal.
  5. The new wire harness also includes auxilary fan wiring (two leads). Thread the auxiliary fan wiring along the power cord, through the bushing, and out the exhaust vent opening. The bushing is sealed with cork tape, push the wire through the cork tape and reseal when finished.
  6. Use the enclosed cord ties to secure the auxiliary fan wiring to the power cord. The cord ties provide strain relief for the cord, and ensure the wire will not come into contact with the evaporator fan blade.
  7. Replace the unit cover and grill.
  8. Connect the auxiliary power wiring to the leads of the auxiliary fan.
  9. When the unit power cord is plugged in and the fan icon is shown on the controller display, the inline fan will be supplied with 115V power.
