Overview

CellarPro 6000S 220V Cooling Unit (P/N 7345). CellarPro engineered the 6000S 220V cooling system to provide maximum cooling power and adjustable humidity control for cellars up to 35 cubic meters in 220V environments with 50Hz or 60Hz. Split refrigeration systems separate the evaporator from the condensing unit, allowing the noise and heat from the condensing unit to be located away from interior living areas. Configurable for internal or external installations, the 6000S 220V includes a variable-speed fan on the evaporator with a low setting for quieter operation and a high setting for maximum power.

All air-cooled refrigeration equipment requires fresh air intake to dissipate the heat generated by the cooling unit. The fresh air intake CANNOT come from the wine cellar space - it must come from space outside the cellar. The Evaporator can be located inside the cellar with or without a decorative grill - not included.

CellarPro's 6000S 220V 3/4 Ton Nominal cooling units are suitable for wine cellars up to 35 cubic meters in both commercial and residential wine cellars. The 35 cubic feet cellar size assumes that the cellar is constructed with insulation of R19 or better in all walls and ceiling (ie no glass or uninsulated concrete), the cooling unit is not ducted, a setpoint of 13C inside the cellar and ambient temperatures up to 27C outside the cellar.

Performance testing shows that this unit maintains optimal cellar temperature and humidity conditions in extreme conditions up to 43C more effectively than similar units from competing brands. 6000S 220V units also are significantly quieter than comparable units from other brands.

Our cooling units are designed to be used in properly-constructed wine cellars that are adequately insulated, airtight and sealed with a vapor barrier. In improperly-constructed cellars, the cooling unit will create excess condensation, leading to damage and premature failure of your cooling unit (not covered by warranty).

Please note: Our units were not designed for, and our warranty does not cover damage from, marine exposure (within 5 miles of the ocean). In these environments, you will need an applied coating, such as Insitu®, to protect outdoor components against corrosion that is common in coastal regions.

Configurations

Configurations
  • CellarPro 6000Sh 220V units are designed to be installed with the evaporator inside the cellar, and the condensing unit in a remote location.
  • Our Split refrigeration systems offer a choice of wiring:
    1. The Condensing unit can be electronically controlled by and wired to the Evaporator (single power source on the Evaporator side). This configuration allows the Condensing unit to be used in temperatures down to -6.7C with the addition of our compressor heater, or down to -29C with the addition of our fan cycling switch AND compressor heater. This configuration requires a 25-amp dedicated circuit breaker.
    2. The Condensing unit can be controlled by a Solenoid valve (dual power source, one each to the Evaporator and Condensing units.) This configuration allows the Condensing unit to be used in temperatures down to -6.7C with the addition of our compressor heater. This configuration requires the evaporator to be wired to a 15-amp circuit breaker, and the condensing unit to be wired to a dedicated 20-amp circuit breaker.
  • 6000Sh 220V evaporators cannot be ducted from a remote location and must be located inside the cellar.
  • When the control panel is difficult to access, we offer a remote control display kit which is wired to the cooling unit and allows the digital display to be mounted inside or outside the cellar.
  • The condensing unit requires 30 centimeters of unobstructed space in front of the coils, and requires approx. 600-700 CFM of ventilation when installed in a confined space.
  • For outdoor installations, we offer an outdoor hood to protect the condensing unit from weather.
  • The evaporator should never be exposed to temperatures below 0C.
  • Access to the left and right side of the evaporator unit is required for installation.
  • All split systems must be installed and charged on site by a qualified HVAC professional. Line-set equivalent feet must be calculated in accordance with ASHRAE guidelines; refer to our Line Sizing Chart for more information.
  • A CellarPro cooling unit must always be used in the upright position, and should never be operated on its side or upside down.
  • We ship these units strapped to a pallet via common carrier with curbside delivery. Inside delivery is available for an additional charge.

  • Condenser Brush #1475: With a long handle and stiff bristles, the brush is ideal for cleaning off the dust and dirt that collect on the hot-side condenser coils, especially when a filter isn't used on the coils.

CellarPro Replacement Unit Program
If your CellarPro cooling unit fails and the parts that failed are still covered by warranty, we'll send a replacement cooling unit to you, as follows:
  1. Your cooling unit must be registered at CellarPro
  2. Your cooling unit must have been properly sized, installed and maintained
  3. Your cooling unit may not have been permanently modified, damaged or disfigured

Please note:
  • Replacement units are factory-refurbished cooling units with a similar build date as your original unit
  • You are responsible for the shipping cost to send the replacement unit to you and return the original unit to us, and the cost (if any) to remove the original unit and install the replacement unit
  • In order to send a replacement unit, we require a deposit, which will be refunded minus shipping costs upon the return and pending the inspection of the original unit
  • If the original unit failed due to improper intallation or use, the failure is not covered by warranty and we will deduct the cost of the repairs from the refund of your deposit

Q&A

What is "Sensible BTUH"?

A: You should always use Sensible BTUH* when comparing different brands of cooling units, and when sizing a cooling unit for your wine cellar. Every cooling unit produces a certain amount of Total BTUH, which is the sum of Sensible BTUH (lowers the temperature) and Latent BTUH (lowers the relative humidity). Because our goal is to cool wine cellars while preserving humidity, wine cellar cooling units should have high Sensible BTUH and low Latent BTUH. The relationship between Sensible and Latent BTUHs is know as SHR (Sensible Heat Ratio), which is calculated as Sensible BTUH/Total BTUH. The SHR for CellarPro cooling units is greater than 90%, which means that CellarPro units provide maximum cooling power without stripping out humidity from the cellar environment.

*CellarPro Sensible BTUHs are calculated assuming 55F cellar temperature, 60% relative humidity and 95F ambient for all units except 1800 units (85F ambient).

What's the difference between a split system and "through the wall" or "self-contained" systems?

A: Split systems are "split" into two parts: the cold side (evaporator) which usually is installed inside the cellar, and the hot side (condensing unit) which is installed away from the cellar. The benefit of having this split is that the heat and noise from the condensing unit can be located far away from living spaces where it won't interfere with day-to-day life.

Are split systems more difficult to install than self-contained systems?

A: Yes. Split systems require installation by a licensed HVAC technician, whereas a self-contained unit can be mounted through-the-wall and is shipped fully charged and operational out of the box.

What's the difference between valve control and electronic control? Which is better?

A: The biggest difference between valve and electronic control is that, with electronic control, the condensing unit receives power directly from the evaporator, whereas with vavle control, the condensing unit is independently powered, and turns on/off based on the solenoid valve. Valve control is more common in the industry, and benefits from not having to run a power line from the evaporator to the condensing unit, but cannot operate in temperatures below -2°C. Electronic control offers more precision, and allows the condensing unit to be placed in temperatures down to -29°C (with the addition of a compressor heater and fan cycling switch.)

Can the evaporator be located in a remote location and ducted to/from the wine cellar?

A: 6000S 220V evaporators cannot be located remotely from the cellar and ducted; they must be installed inside the cellar.

Can I install the entire unit inside the cellar?

A: No, the condensing unit must be located outside the cellar.

If I don't have sufficient space around the condensing unit, is that Ok?

A: The condensing unit generates hot air that must have sufficient space to dissipate, otherwise the unit will recycle its own hot air. The condensing unit cannot be ducted; it requires 30-cm of unobstructed space in front of the coils, and requires approx. 600-700 CFM of ventilation when installed in a confined space.

Does the evaporator include flare connections, or will I need to braze the connections to the line-set?

A: Flare connections are much more prone to leaks, and have been phased out over the years, replaced by fully-brazed connections. This is driven by the EPA and the focus on minimizing refrigerant leaks into the atmosphere.

We want to put a wood grill in front of the evaporator, what is the percentage of air flow that grill will need to have?

A: Our units require 1/2" minimum spacing, as well as a baffle behind the grill to separated the cold air discharge from the coil intake. We have seen problems with custom grills where there is a gap between the unit and the grill and it causes air circulation behind the grill resulting in coil icing. It is also important to note that the evaporator must be mounted to the interior cellar wall, not buried inside the wall. If it is buried inside the wall, the housing will require insulation, otherwise condensation and heat loss issues will occur.
